ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

·         With Croes Communications, contracted to serve as editorial director on the pitch for the U.S. publication plan of Actemra™ (tocilizumab, Roche). Analyzed the competitive landscape, which included a comprehensive literature review, and developed the pitch deck. Competing with four other medical communications companies, the client (a new U.S. subsidiary of a Swiss medical communications company) was awarded the business, representing a $4 million engagement

·         Sold Croes Communications in December 2007 to a startup medical communications firm needing an editorial division. Croes Communications had annual revenues averaging $500,000 from 2001 to 2006

·         Played key role in development and implementation of publication plans for three major brands

·         Served as editorial director for the publication plan of Aranesp® (darbepoetin alfa, Amgen) beginning in Phase 3 through launch. The publication plan included tactics such as a quarterly journal (CKD, the Journal of Chronic Kidney Disease), a case-based quarterly CME newsletter (Profiles in Chronic Kidney Disease), peer-reviewed journal articles, a supplement to the American Journal of Kidney Disease, a supplement to Internal Medicine News, a monograph on the disease state (“The Renal Anemia Management Period”), and management of a KOL Web site. The $4 million engagement included participation in strategy and messaging. Aranesp sales rose to more than $3 billion annual global revenues in the years after launch

·         Was a founding staff member of a startup specialty periodical (Ocular Surgery News), serving as the lead editor and rising to the position of editor-in-chief. In a competitive space of about 20 competing journals, Ocular Surgery News gained market share every year for 14 years, becoming the leading publication in the field, in terms of both readership and advertising, within 7 years of launch. Oversaw multimillion-dollar editorial budgets and staff of up to 10 direct reports. Cultivated high morale, productivity, and motivation with low staff turnover over 14-year period

Diabetes—Wrote numerous executive summaries, newsletters, and journal supplements targeted to endocrinologists, pediatricians, and primary care providers. Conducted comprehensive literature and market analyses in responding to an RFP related to the global publication plan for a new SGLT-2 inhibitor; developed pitch presentation in collaboration with science and account teams.

 

Psychopharmacology—Wrote and developed speakers’ bureau slide decks for Seroquel® (quetiapine, AstraZeneca) through a series of national and regional KOL advisory boards; conducted literature reviews and wrote competitive analyses in the areas of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety; managed the AstraZeneca slide library. Edited and orchestrated the development of numerous journal articles, abstracts, and posters related to medications for treating attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

 

Rheumatology and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases—Served as editorial director on the publication plan (Phase 3 through launch) for Kineret® (anakinra, Amgen). Wrote and developed speakers’ bureau slide decks for Enbrel® (etanercept, Amgen-Wyeth) through a series of national and regional KOL advisory boards. Wrote slide decks on inflammatory cytokine inhibition related to psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and other disorders.

 

Ophthalmology—Served as editor-in-chief of leading specialty periodical. Wrote numerous articles on refractive surgery for the consumer Web site, AllAboutVision.com. Wrote Allergan internal training programs in the areas of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and their treatment through phototherapy combined with vascular endothelial growth factor inhibition. Facilitated the 2007 publication of the book, “Birth of the Intraocular Lens,” edited by Herve Byron, MD, with contributions from 28 leading ophthalmologists.
