PROPERTY
The ownership of the
property on which Oak Hall Manor is located can be traced back to the
1600s (Eastern Shore property records are the oldest in the nation). Situated
on a beautiful 11.5-acre tract in the northern part of Virginia’s Eastern
Shore, Oak Hall Manor is 12 miles west of Chincoteague, VA, a primary
tourist destination in this region, and only a few miles east of a public boat
ramp and marina on the Chesapeake Bay. Shopping is close by — about 4 miles
away at the shopping center at T’s Corner on Rt. 13 and about 12 miles north in
Pocomoke City, MD.
With a total of more than
5,000 sq ft of finished living space and more than 8,000 sq ft of protected,
heated storage and office space, Oak Hall Manor is perfect for a large
or extended family, a corporate retreat or vacation headquarters, or a small
business.

Behind the main house is
a courtyard, with a carriage house (converted to a 2-apartment dwelling) on the
southern edge and a centuries-old “summer kitchen” on the eastern edge, all
connected by brick walkways. The summer kitchen, with its huge hearth, is an
Eastern Shore icon — to provide relief to the home’s occupants during hot
summers, early settlers often built a separate building for cooking.
MAIN HOUSE
The main house at Oak
Hall Manor was built in a style unique to the Eastern Shore. The oldest
portion of the 3,400-sq-ft main home dates to 1775. The midportion was built
around 1850. The newest and largest portion was built in 1972. Because of the
escalating size of the additions, these structures are called “telescope
houses.” More formally, the style is known as Eastern Shore Colonial.

CARRIAGE HOUSE
The carriage house at
Oak Hall Manor was originally a 3-car garage converted in 2002 to 2

the steel barn. All features of the finished apartment were new in 2002,
including the heat pump/AC unit. Additional upgrades were made to the 2nd-floor
studio apartment in 2006.

STEEL BARN
The L-shaped steel barn
at Oak Hall Manor was built in the mid-1980s. It consists of a 60’x120’ main
section and a 20’x40’ attachment, both solidly built on a concrete slab. The
main section, equipped with an electric door opener, would allow protected
parking for 6 to 8 vehicles with room left over for a good-size boat. The main
section also holds 4 insulated rooms currently outfitted as an office, a
craft/fitness room, and storage rooms. The 20’x40’ section serves as convenient
winter storage for pool materials.

ACREAGE CAN BE SUBDIVIDED
The eastern third of the
acreage at Oak Hall Manor features a variety of towering trees in front
of the main house and around the U-shaped front drive (the eastern part of the
U-shaped drive was completed in 2007 and does not appear in the Google Maps
image below). A tree line of evergreens along the western portion of the drive
provides a wind break and privacy.

The dashed line shows the approximate property
boundaries. The acreage in the western two-thirds of the property offers a
potential for future subdivision, expansion of the main house, or other
application.

Oak
Hall Manor is about a 3-hour drive from Philadelphia,
Baltimore, and Washington, DC, 4.5 hours from Manhattan, and 80 miles north of
